Joué-lès-Tours with nearly 38,000 inhabitants is the 2nd town in the Indre-et-Loire department in Central France. The town has a strong economic sector with 900 firms; among the more important ones are Michelin and Hutchinson (tires for heavy vehicles), Tupperware, Eiffage Energy and Zodiac (rubber boats). There are innovative firms for building materials and Joué-lès-Tours is part of the “Cosmetic Valley”. It is an important wine producer and has a rich cultural life (Espace Malraux, Centre de spectacles et de congrès, media library, Music school). Active citizenship is being practiced in the city quarter councils, the municipal youth council, the Elder People Council, Joué Contact and web contact. The active social policy is carried ahead in a House for the Youth, social centers, adventure playground, after-school centers, homes for the aged. The city is part of an out-standing tourist region, the Loire Valley, with numerous castles, museums and entertainment activities.
The Muster project is an occasion to strengthen and extend its historic ties with Città di Castello to the important field of sustainable development. The themes of the project are important fields of activity for the city – Agenda 21, low carbon territory, educating the population and in particular the young towards European citizenship. Hosting the third event will be an important occasion of co-planning the agenda of the future network. Joué-lès-Tours will use the project to learn from other cities, to offer its own experiences and to join efforts particularly in the fields of reducing CO2 emissions, sustainable economic development and involving the young as Europeans citizens.
