The municipality of Joué-lès-Tours is a leading city in France in sustainable development. The staff participates actively in the development of the Agenda 21. A group of 15 employees are active in this field and serve as reference persons for their colleagues.
The sustainable development service has implemented a number of actions to raise the awareness of the staff. Every month, a workshop is organized and deals with various themes like self-produced cleaning products or cosmetics, preserving of green plants, braiding baskets, cooking with “forgotten” (old-fashioned) vegetables. The goal is to strengthen the social cohesion between the employees during the lunch breaks, and to approach playfully the notion of sustainable development.
Every three months flyers are being distributed, which treat subjects like the alternatives to individual motorized transport and the fight against food waste.
A group of 50 workers has been testing, since September 2015, a recycled office paper device. Boxes are provided to collect paper that is sent to a local enterprise which hires socially inclusive. This action, respectful towards the environment, sustains the local economy.
Other actions will gradually be put in place demonstrating the commitment of the municipality in favor of sustainable development.
